Like so much of life, it's a balance. I like the quote, and I have published quite a few of Mark Twain's quotes myself, such as: "Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform.".
Essentially most people around us try to demotivate us, and most likely because they're afraid we might be better.
