George Washington: It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company

It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company.
- George Washington
Of course you can and should keep your composure and happiness regardless of circumstances - regardless of your friends, family and co-workers - regardless of gossip, sarcasm, and negativity. Nonetheless, life is much easier and more pleasant when you spend as much time as possible in the company of enthusiastic positive people - not necessarily those who agree with you, but those who respect your right to your point of view.

I couldn't agree more. I think unhappy people want you to be unhappy with them. It's like they can read your happy spirit & don't choose to be happy but rather want you to be unhappy. I avoid these types of people if at all possible. Thanks for all your inspirations.

Unhappy people are NOT consciously choosing to be unhappy, or to make us unhappy. They need our compassion. At the same time it is crucial that we protect our own happiness from being sucked into the negative energy vortex.

Think of it like tithing. Few of us have the ability to to contribute more than 10% of our time or energy to those who do not appear appreciative. Yet, every little bit helps, so long as our gift comes from untarnished compassion and without any resentment or sense of obligation.

Great comment JLH! I have found out that having compassion for others helps. I feel that if people knew better they probably will not make some of the choices they make. I also know that it takes a lot to know better, so we need to be humble and be compassionate because we have been blessed and entrusted with the knowledge of knowing better and we are obligated share it. Thanks.
